What is SPX?

Expanded polyethylene (aka SPX foam) refers to foams made from polyethylene. It is manufactured from plastic pellets, and a blowing agent is used to expand the material in a mould heated by steam. It is primarily used in material for packaging goods as it is lightweight and flexible. It has excellent shock absorption and cushioning properties. SPX also has a tremendous weight to strength ratio and has a high thermal resistance.

Advantages of SPX Foam

  • The SPX product range is free from CFCs and HCFCs.
  • SPX is resistant to dilute alkalis and acids, some oils, and weathering. It is also non-toxic and has excellent absorption characteristics.
  • Fire retardant and rough cell SPX materials are also available.
  • SPX foam is available in a variety of densities and colours
